A Story that was Secret

Last November I wrote a novel during for something called national Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). I wrote about a girl named Missy Lonar who fell into the land of fairies by accident and fought with them for their freedom. Now, some years later she is traveling back to find the land she loves. That is what I will write about this November. Here is a part of Missy's story, it was once secret, unknown to man kind.

The second half of
Chapter 4
Missy fluttered her new wings gingerly before following Bellsi with the pots of seeds. Bellsi turned around to wait for Missy to catch up with her.
"We shouldn't have been out for the whole day, just think what my husband will say! I will have to tell him our daughter was kidnapped by.... By...." Bellsi's face contorted with a mixture of anger and sorrow. Her voice was tight as she spoke.
"Oh that Dibamy! She won't get away with running my land and kidnapping Antonetta."
Missy stayed silent not knowing what to say. She was not very familiar with this Dibamy lady, but what she had heard so far made her seem utterly selfish and dark. Missy watched Bellsi as she thought. Bellsi didn't know what to do, she was always there for her children but now, when Antonetta needs her most, she can't do a thing.
Suddenly the sunshine faded, breaking Missy's thoughts. She stopped flying and looked upon the greatest sight she had ever seen. Standing taller than the rest of the forest, a tree the size of mount Everest blocked the view of the whole sky. Missy felt limp at the sight and fell to the ground softly. Bellsi chuckled when she looked at Missy's face.
"Welcome to my home."
Missy didn't even hear Bellsi. All she could do was gape at the tree, if it could be called that. If there had been clouds she wouldn't be able to see the top. When she looked closer she saw that it was filled with houses and buildings. The massive trunk was filled with windows and parts of buildings stuck out in different places. The branches were alive with fairies flying around their home. a large part of the village was suspended from a large branch by ropes.
Then it hit her. She was looking at something no other human had ever seen. She was experiencing something completely new to man kind. She smiled and let a laugh of excitement come out of her. Bellsi took her hand and they flew up into the branches together, to join the other fairies in their home. A place hidden to the world of humans, only the most imaginative will ever find it.

Fair Hair, Hairy Fairy

All Fairies have delicate hair, it is always a fancy thing to discus. Man fairies of course don't ever do much with their hair, but the lady fairies spend hours every day doing up each others hair. DorOthian ladies even host hair balls ( I know that sounds funny) where the whole ball is spent talking about hair styles and fads.
Now like I said, fairy hair is a delicate matter. I don't want to over do it. Half of a lady fairy's mind is always thinking about her hair and the other half is always thinking about her dress. With a small portion reserved for thinking about everything else in the world.
If a fairies hair is so important, then it must be very beautiful. Well these are some favorite styles of DorOthians:
Style 1: perm curls
Hair is wound around hot rocks and let sit. When cool, hair is unwound and curly
Worn with half bonnet

Style 2: Half bun with waves
Half the hair is piled on top of the head and held with flower stems while the other half is loosely curled with hot rocks and let drape over shoulders
Style 3: Crownlet cap
Crownlet cap is placed on head and hair is carefully wound around it, then a lace bonnet is placed over that.

New styles to enter the world of fairies

Here are some new styles for Darrites, Pedonians and DorOthians:

Darrite man with a roman style tunic and half cape.

Pedonian girl wearing a lily died pink over a blue skirt.

A young apprentice to the king's court of DorOthea.

A lady of Darr wearing a plain day dress.

A wool plant farmer's smock and breeches from Pedonia.

A rich ballerina from Pedonia.

Oh, boy do I have a lot to say this time

My goodness, a lot can happen in a short time. I have been working on a "Scrapbook" of sorts called Fairy Fashion, (of course) and I am almost done with it. I have put all my Fairy drawings together with my fairy ideas and made them into a book.

Almost all my drawings were not colored, and I wanted them to be, so I copied all my drawings and colored the copies multiple times to find the perfect color scheme for each one.
Then I scanned in all the good coloring jobs and adjusted each one's size on the computer and printed them out again. I cropped them and that was the basic finish for the drawing part of Fairy Fashion.

Then came the "made up knowledge" part of the scrapbook. I have to admit that creating a whole style of clothing and a bunch of strange lands for fairies had some challenges, but it took about four years to come up with it. I made it in the style of a nature journal and even have sample scraps of fabric from fairy clothes in it.

I am going to enter it into our county fair through 4-H in the imagination category so maybe this project is going to really be worth all the effort. Maybe soon I will post some pictures of it to my blog.

Fairy Tunics

As I said, the Darr fairies live in the desert in one huge city. When they leave the city they all must were hooded cloaks and thick tunics or else they would be covered in sand. But the fairies of Darr now wear tunics indoors too, with fancy designs on them. Why do they wear tunics while inside their homes? because the style of tunics for Darrs has evolved into a fashionable item of clothing not just protection from blowing sand.

Darrs wear long tunics to cover their feet, which are looked upon as the dirtiest part of the body. The indoor tunic for lady Darrs reaches just below the knee but a long skirted dress is always worn underneath. The designs that are embroidered on the hems of such tunics vary. If it is a tunic that is going to be worn while visiting friends, it will be more fancy than a home tunic but not as fancy as the tunics worn to balls and parties.

Here is an average tunic and gown for a grown fairy lady of Darr. The dress underneath is very similar to the young lady's dress of Darr that I have already posted.
